Karen is a Registered Occupational Therapist who graduated from Otago Polytechnic in 2003. She has a background in mental health. She developed a particular interest in the use of mindfulness as a tool to empower people to self-regulate in times of stress, and assist in understanding one's reactions and behaviour patterns.
Karen has taken some time away from her career to raise her two children, both of whom are gifted, twice exceptional. She has held volunteer roles supporting parents of children who are gifted, have developmental delays, and/or learning disabilities. Karen has ensured that all support has been backed by quality evidence and grounded in theory.
Karen specialises in the use of sensory and cognitive strategies for individuals who experience executive functioning and sensory processing issues. These may be due to neurological issues and/or developmental delay, as well as supporting the needs of gifted and twice exceptional children.
Karen is based in Dunedin, and can assist people via phone, email or Skype.
